Home movie, newsreel, or photos of Grand Ballroom at Hotel St. George in 1930s

Does your family have someone who enjoyed making home movies in the 1930s? I am the webmaster of a site devoted to collecting the oral histories of the old Hotel St. George in Brooklyn Heights. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/StGeorgeTower/ This is an online experiment in recreating a lost history since there are no formal records that survived when this once central player in the social fabric of Brooklyn was in its hey day (1929 through 1960).

What has happened with this experiment is it took off. Hundreds of members are in 30 states and six countries now. Though we have now collected an impressive number of photos and memorabilia in addition to many hundreds of first-person memories, what is still missing is film footage.

Given the fact that this hotel was so prominent and that so many people experienced milestones here (weddings and honeymoons, retirements, annual church functions, armed services events, Dodgers and Yankees events, the Yuletide Ball (debut season), and all sorts of festive formal events, it is astonishing that we have not added film footage to our archives yet.

Could such a thing be hiding in a family attic? We will gladly convert to YouTube for you.

Please ask family members during Passover and Easter gatherings if such a thing exists. Then, let us know. We'll help preserve your family's history in an online, searchable archive.

Thanks.
